Thanks to JT Spangler’s amazingly fast responding, here are his answers to a few questions I got to ask him!
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: “From life. The great thing about training yourself as a writer is that inspiration is EVERYWHERE.”
Q: What are your favorite songs to cover?
A: “Hmm, depends on my mood and the setting. I’ve always liked covering Bill Withers — Who Is He. And if it’s an intimate show, acoustic, I really like to play Mayer’s Come Back To Bed. But I did years of cover gigs, so there’s a lot to choose from!”
Q: Do you have a favorite song to play live?
A: “With my band, I Wanna Know (which hasn’t been released yet). Solo, I’d probably say Good Morning, Baby (off of my last EP, The Vienna Circle Sessions).”
Q: What is the first song you have ever written?
A: “The first song I ever started still isn’t finished. The first song I finished I put on my first EP. It’s called Bounce Back. It was inspired by an episode of Scrubs.”
Q: What piqued your interest in music?
A: “It was never any conscious piquing. I just grew up with music, and always loved it. Music can make you FEEL, which is such a powerful thing.”
Q: Who do you admire the most?
A: “Professionally, I’d have to go with James Taylor, for songwriting and longevity.”
Thanks again, JT!
