I asked Derek Luttrell a few questions about his music and inspiration and here is what he had to say…
Q: What musician do you admire the most?
A: “My favorite musician of all time is Townes Van Zandt. In my opinion, he is the greatest songwriter that ever lived, and I strongly believe that.”
Q: How would you describe your music?
A: “I describe my music as folk/alt. country. I write a lot of folk type stuff, but most of it has that country swing to it.”
Q: Where do you draw inspiration from?
A: “I draw inspiration from books I read, people I meet, fellow songwriters, and I know it sounds cliche, but life in general is full of influence.“
Q: What is the hardest part about getting your name out?
A: “What makes it difficult for me is that I am a very shy person, but I’m a work in progress :). Also, being in school makes it hard to tour, and promote myself, but that will change in May when I graduate.”
Q: Where is the best place to find your music?
A: “The best place to find my music is at my shows, or on itunes. I have an old EP, a single, and my brand new self titled record for sale there.”
Q: Anything new?
A: “I released my first full length record two months ago. Its self titled, because I figured it was my first actual album, so why not? I am very proud of it, because my band and I recorded it live in the studio, so there was very little overdubbing or production involved. It’s a very honest recording.”
Thanks a ton, Derek!
